Lecture overview:
From the moment the first Europeans arrived in the Americas, feathers held a special fascination due to their richness and exoticism. Whether in royal headdresses, religious ornaments or paintings born of the syncretism that followed the conquest, feather artists have used this material to create objects and works that offer us a new understanding of the New World. Omnipresent in almost all indigenous cultures, from the Great Plains of the United States to Tierra del Fuego, featherwork occupies a prominent place in Native American artistic creations. Through this emblematic material, we will explore three cultural regions: Mesoamerica, the Andes and the Amazon rainforest .
